INVENTORS, INVENTIONS & YOU / 4th, 5th, and 6th Graders

The Inventors Inventions and You (IIY) is a class targeted to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students that encourages engagement in the entrepreneurial world. It is a fun, interactive, classroom experience that provides opportunities to apply critical and analytical thinking skills. The time commitment is eight two-hour classes with some required creative time outside of the classroom. Benefits of the program:

Provides an opportunity for young students to learn
       about business.
Encourages creativity, self-sufficiency, and personal initiative.
Explores the characteristics of the entrepreneur.
Provides opportunities to investigate components of starting a business.
Encourages creativity in displaying their product or service at the entrepreneurial fair.
Recognition of their efforts.

Compare notes with other future "inventors" for seven weeks and learn how to make your invention dream come true. Be the expert and present your idea to Cass County business and community leaders, win prizes, and become the inventor of tomorrow.

 

About the Instructor - Carolyn Thomas

Credentials. Ms. Thomas brings a wealth of experience to this project. This gifted teacher is retired from the Logansport Community School Corp. after 24 years, nine of which were spent teaching gifted and talented students. Ms. Thomas has received many awards for her work, among which are a National Science Foundation grant and a Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Fellowship.

Ivy Tech Community College is offering the "Inventors, Inventions, and You" class for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students both fall and spring semesters.

       regular school experience?

Would you like your child to participate in a critical thinking process that develops good problem-
       solving skills?
Do you feel your child's creative abilities need to be encouraged?

       community, or being an active participant in the community?

The "Inventors, Inventions, and You" class has been designed to provide all of the above experiences.

HIGH SCHOOL BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION

Open to all Cass County Seniors.
For High School students, the Business Plan Competition provides the opportunity to create a written plan for a small business. Participants will develop a display for the product or service as well as make a short presentation to a panel of judges on all aspects of the plan and the business. The goal is to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit and experience at a higher level for students. Representatives from the Small Business Development Center are available to assist students with their plans. Program opens February 10th.
